Dublin sits right at the crossroads of I-580 and I-680 in the Tri-Valley, and it’s grown from a quiet bedroom community into one of the most desirable small cities in Alameda County. I’ve spent enough time here (I even had my first job at the Chuck E. Cheese on the main drag) to know it street by street. Here’s what makes it stand out.
1. Location, location, location
You’re about 45 minutes from downtown San Francisco, close to the East Bay, and a short drive from Napa or the lesser-known (and in my opinion, better) Livermore Valley wine country. Sitting where two major interstates meet makes getting anywhere in the Bay Area straightforward.
2. Two BART stations
Most East Bay cities get one BART stop. Dublin has two, Dublin/Pleasanton and West Dublin/Pleasanton. If you work anywhere along the BART corridor, you can leave the car at home.
3. Strong schools
The Dublin Unified School District performs well above state averages, with solid extracurricular programs across athletics, music, robotics, and the arts.
4. Safety
Dublin ranks in the 65th percentile for safety nationally, meaning it’s safer than 65% of U.S. cities, with violent crime well below both state and national averages.
5. A mix of old and new
Dublin is one of the few Bay Area cities still actively building, so you get a mix of newer master-planned neighborhoods and more established streets with mature landscaping.
6. Genuinely good food
Athens Burgers and Los Pericos are two of my go-tos. And if you’re willing to drive a few minutes east, Livermore’s restaurant scene is worth the trip too.
7. Community
It’s the kind of place where people plant roots and stay. That’s not something you can put a number on, but it’s real.
